Nelly César is a feminist Mexican artist currently living in Vancouver, Canada. Her work is merely related to misbehavior, perversion and deviancy through exploiting the rhetoric of the "animal" behavior as a political tool of subjective reconfiguration. Her work experiments with contra-institutional relations with her specific cultural and geographic locations. She has worked in Puebla, Mexico City, Buenos Aires and Vancouver in a series of "experiences" she designs and later on privately performs. Instead of documenting her acts in photography or video she translates her experience in multidisciplinary work. She parts from the idea of using herself as a political guinea pig inside a pervert laboratory designed on her own.
She is currently enrolled in the MFA program of the University of British Columbia supported by Fundación/Colección Jumex where she is developing The following projects: Boring Honeymoon, To My Dear World obsessed with Penetration and Doing What I Do Best…Being a Pervert. These projects are to be constituted by a series of paintings, drawings, and installations addressing contemporary concerns on critical issues in sexuality, power relations, and contra-sexual politics.
